Actions of the Facial Muscles

Frontalis - wrinkles the eyebrows
Occipitalis - raises the eyebrows
Together, the Frontalis and Occipitalis are known as the Epicranius
Nasalis - wrinkles the nose
Orbicularis Oculis - closes the eyes
Orbicularis Oris - closes the lips
Levator Labii Superioris - elevates and puckers the upper lip
Zygomaticus Minor - elevates and retracts the upper lip
Zygomaticus Major - elevates and retracts the corners of the mouth
Risorius - moves the corners of the mouth laterally
Depressor Anguli Inferioris - pulls down the corners of the mouth
Depressor Labii Inferioris - depresses the lower lip
Mentalis - moves the lower lip forward
Temporalis - closes jaw
Masseter - closes jaw
Buccinator - compresses cheeks against teeth for sucking and allows cheeks expand for blowing
Platysma - depresses madible, draws the corners of the mouth downward, and tenses the skin of the neck
